11 Jan One of our care workers, gives a personal account
Gill Jones’ care journey started 16 years ago, when she was working as an assistant manager in retail, but with a young son, she felt she needed a bit more flexibility and work-life balance.
The flexibility offered by Everycare was a perfect fit: “Sometimes you need more hours, sometimes you need less and they’re very accommodating. So, if something happens in your life they’re very good at covering you and getting you help and support. They’re very good.”
Everycare is one of the leading providers of private homecare and healthcare staffing services in the UK which provides home care support to individuals allowing them to remain in the comfort and familiar surroundings of their own home.
She went on to explain the basics of her job: “I go in and see people and do their personal care for them. I sort their breakfast out and their medication and see if there’s any other issues I can help them with. So, we support them with meals, we support with personal care.”
But care is much more than that. Everycare workers are not only there to provide care, food and medication, but they’re also acting as a familiar face.
“I do a nice companion shop for a lady who’s in a wheelchair. Two of us take her shopping once a week. She loves it, she really looks forward to that. We walk around the town and have a bit of lunch out. She really enjoys it. She says she really looks forward to it and it makes her day.
“You have to remember that sometimes the only face they see in a day is ours and it’s nice to just go in there and it makes them happy. We can go in there and they might be sad and when we leave they’re happy. I think it’s just really nice getting the feedback from families and even from the clients, saying ‘It’s so nice to see you, when will you be back’. That’s nice.”
